Contract review and clause risk flagging
Review inbound contracts against the company's playbook of acceptable positions, flagging non-standard clauses — liability caps, indemnities, termination, auto-renewal — with the preferred alternative wording.
40–60%
reduction in first-pass contract review time
Opportunity assessment
Minor improvement. Small efficiency gain with limited effect on overall turnover or bottom line.
Relatively straightforward. Off-the-shelf tools handle the core task. Implementation is well-understood with good examples to follow.
Moderate data needs. Works with data most businesses hold, but will likely need consolidation, cleaning, or reformatting before use.
Moderate risk. Some customer or external exposure. Errors create rework or reputational impact but are recoverable.
Light people impact. A new tool slots into an existing workflow. Minimal training needed. Most people will adapt quickly.

Things to consider
JPMorgan's COIN programme, which automated review of commercial loan agreements, is the standard reference point for the scale of the time saving available on high-volume standard-form contracts (Bloomberg).
You need a written clause playbook before you start. Most legal teams hold their acceptable positions in the heads of two lawyers, and the model cannot flag deviation from a standard that has never been written down.
The output is a triage aid, not advice. A qualified lawyer must own the final position, and the record should show that they did.
Experiment starter: Take fifty contracts already reviewed by your legal team. Run them through clause flagging and compare against the issues the lawyers actually raised. Count both misses and noise — misses are the disqualifier.

NDA triage and standard-term approval
Automatically assess inbound NDAs against a pre-approved position, approve those that match, and escalate only the ones with material deviations, with the deviations highlighted.
Legal research and precedent summarisation
Summarise relevant legislation, regulator guidance, and internal precedent for a specific question, with citations, giving the in-house team a researched starting point rather than a blank page.
Data subject access request processing
Locate, collate, and redact personal data across systems in response to a subject access request, producing a candidate response pack for the data protection officer to review and release.
