A single artwork error that reaches print is a full reprint plus a delayed launch, and in food an incorrect allergen statement is a recall. The business case is almost entirely error avoidance, not time saving.
Automated proofing tools are mature in packaging — the AI addition is handling reflowed layouts and image-based text rather than clean digital files. Machine checking should sit alongside, not replace, the final human sign-off.
Version control is the prerequisite. If there is no single approved copy deck to check against, the tool has nothing to compare to.
Experiment starter: Take fifty artworks that went through your manual proofing process last year, including any where an error escaped. Run them through automated checking and count how many known errors it catches, plus how many false flags a proofreader has to dismiss.
