Period-end commentary drafting
Convert financial data into narrative commentary for management accounts. Finance team reviews and adjusts. Eliminates the blank-page problem at month end.

Opportunity assessment
Negligible commercial impact. Saves time at the margins but won't move the needle on revenue or profit.
Very easy to implement. Ready-to-use tools exist. Can be up and running in days or weeks with minimal technical resource.
Light data requirements. Uses straightforward inputs — documents, product descriptions, customer records — that are usually accessible with minimal prep.
Very low risk. Fully internal use. A person checks everything before it goes further. Worst case is a minor internal inconvenience.
Very easy to absorb. Runs quietly in the background or gives people a helpful new input. Makes everyday work easier with almost no friction.

Things to consider
Provide structured financial data (actuals vs. budget, key variances) in a consistent format — the AI commentary quality mirrors the data completeness.
Define the commentary style and what must be covered (e.g. which variances require explanation, what format headings to use).
The finance team still owns the numbers and the narrative — AI produces the first draft, the finance director signs off the final version.
The best-performing financial commentary prompts include explicit instructions on what NOT to write — no passive voice, no vague attribution, no hedging language. Negative constraints are as important as positive ones.
Experiment starter: At next month-end, export actuals versus budget as a structured table and run it through a well-crafted prompt. Track how long the finance team spends editing the output. If they spend less than 20 minutes editing a draft that would have taken two hours to write, formalise the process.

Invoice exception identification
Flag invoices with missing PO references, duplicate submissions, price variances, or unusual payment terms before they reach approval.
Contract data extraction
Extract key commercial terms from supplier and customer contracts — payment terms, renewal dates, liability caps, exclusivity clauses — into structured records.
Variance analysis narrative
Draft plain-language explanations of budget versus actual variances from structured data. Provides first-draft reasoning that analysts review and validate.
